Discussion on pipelines and consultation with Indigenous peoples

“The Tsleil-Waututh Nation, the Squamish Nation and others challenged the National Energy Board’s decision for failing to adequately consult with Indigenous peoples. The Federal Court of Appeal has sided with them stating that “Canada’s efforts fell well short of the mark set by the Supreme Court of Canada.” Respect for Indigenous peoples’ title and rights is the foundation for building a renewed nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous peoples. The Court has affirmed these rights and established the importance of addressing the concerns of Indigenous communities.” [Quote: Federal Court of Appeal overturns approvals for Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.
